(Computational) Textual Entailment

Abstract:
My research topic is Textual Entailment (TE), which can be described as detecting the entailment relationship between two texts, Text (T) and Hypothesis (H). According to the previous works, this task is quite challenging, since various linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge are needed. I started my work with several preliminary experiments both on special cases of entailment and different processing modules, aiming to divide and conquer this task. As a basic NLP component, textual entailment can also be utilized in many applications, e.g. information extraction, question answering. Therefore, I am also collecting data from real applications. Although these works seem to be independent to each other, the big framework emerges gradually during my research process.
