George Square Campus

The meeting's homebase is George Square Campus [map] of University of Edinburgh which hosts several units of the School of Informatics as well as the School of Philosophy, Psychology, and Language Sciences.

How to get there?

With public transport from Edinburgh Airport to the Campus (or Newington in general).
Take the Airlink airport bus (aka bus no. 100, £3 single, £5 return) and only get off at the terminal which is on Waverley Bridge (ca. 25 min). Take any bus on Northbridge (most simply walking up Cockburn street to the Royal Mile) that is going south and get off near Nicholson Square (ca. 5 min., price is £1.10).
Or take a cab from the airport (ca. £18).

Within the campus

Lunch and talks

Within the central area, talks, tutorials, and lunch will take place in the Informatics Forum (07/09, 12/09, 15/09) and the Chrystal Macmillan Building (08/09 – 12/09).
Coffee (11:00) and lunch (12:30) will take place in the Informatics Forum, in the Miniforum 1 or in the café.

Project work

The project work will be in Appleton Tower (across the street from the Informatics Forum), rooms 4.12, 4.13, and 4.07.

The invited speakers and Saarbrücken staff will be based in rooms 3.23, and 4.18B in the Informatics Forum. Moreover, hotdesking space is available in the Forum on levels 2, 3, and 4.

Presentations and equipment

Invited talks (all non-student talks) are 60 min. in length; please budget 45 min. for your talk and 15 min. for questions and discussion.
Student talks are 30 min. in length; please plan to talk for 20 min. and leave 10 min. for questions.

We will provide a data projector with a PC running Acrobat Reader and Powerpoint; if you plan to use this, please bring your presentation on CD or memory stick. You can also use your own laptop.

Computer accounts

For all participants, temporary accounts on the Informatics system have been arranged. You will receive your account information on arrival, which will enable you to access the computers in the computing labs (so as to be able to do project work). Invited speakers can use their accounts to access the computers in the visitors' office.

If you have brought your own laptop, you will be able to connect to the Informatics (wired) network and the University's Central wireless network, which covers both the Informatics Forum and Appleton Tower. You will receive your wireless account information on arrival, as well as information on how to connect to the wireless network. Note that the username and password for the wireless are different from your Informatics username and password. For more information about the wireless, please follow this link.
