Multi-lingual grammar design and LinguisticTypology
Speaker: Antske Fokkens
Abstract:
The Matrix Project (Bender et al. 2002) is a multi-lingual grammar engineering project, that provides start up grammars of natural language. Our past research involved providing standard implementations for basic word order phenomena. In order to provide basic analyses for any language, research on what phenomena actually occur in languages across the world is an essential element in the Matrix project. In this talk, I will discuss how "omni"-lingual grammar design interacts (or may interact) with research on word order within linguistic typology.
