The paper “A dialogue game for eliciting balanced collaboration” summarizes Isidora Jeknic’s MSc thesis, which she completed under the supervision of Alexander Koller and David Schlangen. It addresses major shortcoming of many existing task-oriented dialogue games: it often happens that one dialogue participant takes a “leader” or “instruction-giver” role, while the other becomes a “follower”. Isidora designed a new object placement game that is designed to keep the division of labor between the two participants more balanced. She demonstrated through crowdsourcing that, indeed, only a minority of participant pairs fell into a leader-follower split, and those pairs also exhibited worse task performance.
