3D Model Acquisition and Dynamic Positioning of Projected Displays with Fluid Beam

Speaker: Mira Spassova

Abstract:

Fluid Beam is a system using a steerable projector and camera unit in order to augment the surfaces of instrumented environments with projected virtual objects. In this way the environment appears to be covered with a kind of invisible virtual layer on which images, texts, videos, video streams and other virtual objects can be placed. By directing the projector beam at particular surfaces the virtual objects placed on them are made visible as if the projector were a virtual torch. Two projects extending the functionalities of the Fluid Beam system were successfully finished recently: the first one uses the Fluid Beam device to capture the geometry of the environment and creates a 3D model of the room and the second one enables a dynamic positioning of virtual displays using an automatically generated path network. Furthermore I will introduce my idea of a novel interaction technique with the Fluid Beam system using an instrumented bracelet.
