A discourse module for a QA system: what to model and how

Abstract:
In this talk I will present ongoing work on the implementation of a discourse module which should be able to successfully resolve several discourse phenomena in QA interactions. I will justify some of the decisions taken - the phenomena to be handled, the nature of the discourse model, the different representation levels underlying different resolution processes, etc. - with both theoretical and practical arguments supported by empirical data obtained from a WoZ experiment. Finally, I will talk with a bit more detail about the resolution process at the linguistic level and its coverage.
