ICPhS Proceedings

The International Congress of Phonetic Sciences (ICPhS) is one of the largest and one of the earliest conferences for all aspects of phonetic research. Usually held every four years there were 19 meetings since its inauguration in 1932. The 16th ICPhS in Saarbrücken was the first that made and maintained its proceedings online. With the financial support of the Max Mangold estate we have made the proceedings of earlier congresses available as searchable pdf documents. This project is meant as a complement to the digitisation of the ICPhS proceedings by the International Phonetic Association (IPA).

In addition, we provide a digitised and searchable PDF document of the book where the term 'coarticulation' was coined:
Menzerath & Lacerda (1933): Koartikulation, Steuerung und Lautabgrenzung. Berlin/Bonn: Ferd. Dümmlers Verlag.

MaryTTS

The MARY text-to-speech system was created by a collaboration between the Phonetics group and the DFKI Language Technology Lab in Saarbrücken. It provides a number of synthetic voices built by diphone, unit selection, and statistical parametric speech synthesis techniques, for several languages and in different voice qualities. MaryTTS enjoys active usage and development by speech science and technology groups around the world.

Recording Lab

The recording laboratory of the Phonetics Department is located in C7.4, Room 101. The lab provides facilities and equipment for professional-quality speech recordings and for speech production and perception studies, in research and teaching. The sound-insulated recording booth is suitable for single-speaker and dialog recording.

Specifications: Studiobox Premium, Digital Mixer Yamaha N12, ProTools and Cubase AI 5.

The lab is available upon request to research and teaching staff as well as students for thesis and course work. Application forms and lab manual are available below. Please consult our laboratory calendar to check for lab occupancy and to avoid overlap and disturbance during recording sessions.
