Questions for session 10.01.2003: Centering Theory II.
- Ad. Table 11: why are mediate expressions ranked below old expressions, and hearer-new expressions are ranked lowest and not visa versa? ...And what is "brand-new-anchored" in comparison to "brand-new"? (Iris)
- It is stated at the end of the article by Strube and Hahn that plural anaphors (e.g. Mary and John went to the cinema. [They] found the film breath-taking.) are one of the weaknesses of this approach. Is it to be expected that this problem can be solved by a straightforward extension of the system or is it a real poser because of the very idea of the approach is "incompatible" with it? (Vasek)
- Does this extenstion of standard centering approach solve (at least partially) the problem of analyzing complexer sentence structures (e.g. sentence having embedded relative sentences which tear it apart - possibly the tree representation being non-projective) or it doesn't contribute to solving the problem at all? (Vasek)
