"A statistical grammar for inducing lexical semantic phenomena" Sabine Schulte im Walde The talk presents the grammar modelling framework of Head-Lexicalised Probabilistic Context-Free Grammars (HeadLex-PCFGs), cf. Charniak (1997) and Carroll and Rooth (1998), as an empirical resource for inducing quantitative lexical properties at the syntax-semantics interface. First, the statistical grammar framework and the EM training procedure are introduced and illustrated. In a second step, we concentrate on a German HeadLex-PCFG, and describe the grammar development and design properties. Finally, several examples demonstrate the usage of the grammar model as basis for lexical acquisition.
