Memory-Based Language Processing

MBLP is a statistical approach to language processing based on the collection of exemplars, the computation of metrics on these exemplars, and the use of similarity-based reasoning for processing. I will describe the inspiration sources for this approach, the specific incarnation we have given to it in my research groups in Tilburg and Antwerp, and I will evaluate it both from a language technology perspective (as an approach to statistical NLP: case study shallow parsing), and from a psycholinguistic perspective (as an approach to experientalist, single-route cognitive models: case study German and Dutch plurals).
