My current research is about the automatic generation of instructions directed to human listeners in a virtual or physical environment. In particular, I have been working on the problem of automatically generating referring expressions for given objects in the environment, which make it easy for human users to identify those objects. To do that, I am using machine learning methods to predict which expressions have a higher chance of being correctly understood by listeners, based on recorded system-human interactions. For collecting data and testing my method I am using the GIVE virtual environment.
