THEME: PARAMETERS AND FEATURES, AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS
The workshop addresses the
implementation of phonetic and phonological knowledge in (modules of) ASR
systems. The implementation can concern the derivation of appropriate
parameters or (phonetic) features from the microphone signal, the definition of
recognition units, the system architecture, the definition of the lexicon
entries, etc. The workshop is also intended to set up collaborative experiments
between participants to evaluate the resulting systems or modules.
The article deadline is February 1, 2000. Each article will be reviewed by
two other participants. Please note this implies that if your abstract is
accepted, you will also have to review two articles!
Author guidelines are available in the example file PhonASR.doc, which
you can use with Microsoft Word for Windows. Articles should be 10-12 pages
(note that the pages are not long). To submit your article, please
send a ps- or pdf-file to Katrin Kirchhoff (katrin@isdl.ee.washington.edu)
with a Cc to Jacques Koreman (jkoreman@coli.uni-saarland.de).
You need not send in a printed version of your
paper, but please do print out the article and check it carefully before
sending it.
The final, reviewed version of the article must be sent to Jacques Koreman.
Please send a ps- or pdf-file and the corresponding doc-file.
ACCEPTED ABSTRACTS AND
USEFUL LINKS
The abstracts listed below have been accepted for presentation:
More information on travel to Saarbrücken can be obtained by clicking
on the link. You can see where Saarbrücken is and how you can get there
(and even plan your train journey), and you can find the Institute of
Phonetics (building 17) on the site map.
We have selected three accomodations for you. Please click on the link to
get more info. Most convenient is the Hermann
Neuberger sports school, because it is on campus. It is sober but clean, and probably has all the
facilities you need. The two hotels are slightly more luxurious. If you want
to be close to the city centre, hotel Madeleine is probably best, although
both other locations are at only a short bus ride from the city centre.
The organisers will make sure coffee and tea is available in the breaks.
Lunch and dinner will be arranged, but have to be paid for by the
participants.
General organisation of the workshop is in the hands of Jacques Koreman,
Bistra Andreeva and Katrin Kirchhoff. The local organisation committee
consists of Bistra Andreeva, Rossella Caradonna, Attilio Erriquez and
Jacques Koreman.

LODGING
If you are bringing an additional person who is not taking part in the workshop,
(s)he obviously does not have to pay the workshop fee. If you want to share
a room with (an)other workshop participant, please do not forget to indicate that person's
name - and make sure (s)he agrees to share a room with you.
