Licence Agreement for the NEGRA Corpus

Product

The NEGRA corpus, version 2.0, consists of approximately 355,000 tokens (20,000 sentences) of German newspaper text, taken from the Frankfurter Rundschau as contained in the CD ``Multilingual Corpus 1'' of the European Corpus Initiative. 60,000 tokens were annotated with parts-of-speech at the Institut für maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung, Stuttgart. The rest, 295,000 tokens, were annotated with parts-of-speech in projects NEGRA (DFG Sonderforschungsbereich 378, Projekt C3) and LINC (Universität des Saarlandes) in Saarbrücken. The complete corpus was annotated with syntactic structures in NEGRA and LINC.

Universität Stuttgart, Institut für maschinelle Sprachverarbeitung, for part-of-speech annotations of the first 60,000 tokens.
Universität des Saarlandes, FR 4.7 Computerlinguistik, Saarbrücken, for all other part-of-speech annotations, all structural annotations, and corpus documentation.

Pre-Condition

The raw text of the Frankfurter Rundschau as used in the corpus is copyrighted by the Association for Computational Linguistics and released by the European Corpus Initiative on the CD ``Multilingual Corpus 1''. USER certifies by signing this license agreement that USER has a valid licence for the CD ``Multilingual Corpus 1''.

License

LICENSER grants USER a non-exclusive license to use the NEGRA corpus, version 2.0. USER agrees

to use the corpus only for non-commercial, non-profit research purposes;
to make no changes to the corpus;
and to acknowledge the use of the corpus in all publications reporting on results produced with the help of the NEGRA corpus.

Use of the corpus or use of data derived from the corpus for any commercial purposes requires explicit written agreement of LICENSER.

Non-Disclosure

The NEGRA corpus and its documentation will be held in confidence by USER and will not be disclosed by USER to third parties, except for those parts of the corpus or its documentation that are explicitly marked for public use, and except for example sentences in scientific publications.

USER shall and will employ all necessary precautions to ensure that no persons or institutions other than persons as are in the employ of USER or in the same research project as USER will get access to the NEGRA corpus or parts thereof. Other persons or institutions desiring access to the corpus should be directed to LICENSER to obtain separate licence agreements.

Fee

This license is granted by LICENSER to USER free of charge.

Disclaimer

The NEGRA corpus and its documentation is provided on an ``as is'' basis, with no guarantee of its veracity or accuracy. No liability is accepted for any damage caused by its use.

LICENSER hereby informs USER that the distributed version of the NEGRA corpus is work in progress, and despite that large efforts are spent on removing annotation errors, some of them still remain in the corpus.
