Task-based Language Learning with a Chatbot
Speaker: Sabrina Wilske
Abstract:
In this talk I will introduce the concept of /task-based language learning and teaching/ and the role of /conversational interaction/ in second language acquisition. I will show how those concepts can be implemented in computer-assisted language learning (CALL), by presenting a chat-based dialog system that aims to support the acquisition of two different grammatical structures of German, embedded within two different task-based scenarios. I will also talk about the issues involved in setting up an experiment to evaluate the usefulness and effect of such a system.
