WEEK ONE (Sep 6-10)

George Square Campus

The meeting's homebase is George Square Campus [map] of University of Edinbrugh which hosts several units of the School of Informatics as well as the Department of Psychology and Theoretical and Applied Linguistics.
How to get there?
With public transport from Edinburgh Airport to the Campus (or Newington in general).
Take the Airlink airport bus (aka bus no. 100, GBP 3 single, 5 return) and only get off at the terminal which is Waverly station (ca. 25 min). Take any bus on Northbridge (most simply walking up Cockburn street to the Royal Mile) that is going south and get off at Saint Patrick Square (ca. 5min, price is 80p).
Or take a cab (ca. GBP 15).

Within the campus

Lunch and talks
Within the campus [maps: html, pdf] lunch and talks will take place  the conference suite at 4 Buccleuch place (building number 42 on the campus map). To get to the conference suite enter No. 4 and take the small stairs to the basement. Lunch is served in the foyer every day at 1pm.
Visitors' office
Visitors' office is room 3 on the groundfloor of 2 Buccleuch Place (building number 42 on the campus map).
Project work
Project work is in the Computing Lab South on level 5 of Appelton Tower (building number 30 on the  campus map).

Presentations and equipment

Invited talks (all non-student talks) are 75 min in length; please budget 50 min for your talk and 25 min for questions and discussion.
Student talks are 30 min in length; please plan to talk for 20 min and leave 10 min for questions.
Project presentations on Sep 6 are 15 min long.
 
At both Edinburgh and Firbush, we will provide a data projector with a PC running Acrobat Reader and Powerpoint; if you plan to use this, please bring your presentation on floppy, CD, or memory stick. You can
also use your own laptop.
At Edinburgh, there will also be an overhead projector (at Firbush, this will probably not be the case; let us know if this is a problem). 

Computer accounts

For student participants, visitors' account will be arranged. You will receive your account information on arrival, which will enable you to access the computers in the computing lab (so as to be able to do project work). Invited speakers can use their accounts to access the computers in the visitors' office.
 
If you have brought your own laptop, you will be able to connect to the University's wireless network, which covers both Buccleuch Place and Appleton Tower. However, you will first have to register using a username and the password which you will receive on arrival.  Please note that this password is not the same as the password you use to access your Edinburgh account. WEEK TWO (Sep 13-17)

Firbush Point Field Centre is situated on the banks of Loch Tay near the village of Killin in the Southern Highlands, about 80 miles north of Edinburgh [map]. It is administered and staffed by members of the Centre for Sport and Exercise, at the University of Edinburgh. There is also a travel map.
Its beautiful location offers a wide range of outdoor activities.

A coach has been arranged for transfer from Edinburgh to Firbush and back. The coach will leave fromoutside 2 Buccleuch Place at 9:00am on Monday Sep 13th. It will return from Firbush at 11:00am on Friday Sep 17th. There will also be a transfer in private cars from and to Firbush on Wednesday around lunch time.

How to get back?

If the times for the coach are not suitable for you, you can use public transport from Killin to Edinburgh.  First take the bus from Killin to Sterling.  Then take the train from Sterling to Edinburgh (runs every 15 min, takes about an hour).

There are no computing facilities or internet access of any kind in Firbush.
