Application Checklist
The deadline for application for the program is February
15 of the respective year. Applications arriving after that date
will not be considered.
- Fill in the online application form.

Upload all the following documents via our registration data bank:
- a statement of interest
written in English. Please write at most two pages focusing on:
- your reasons for applying
- your area of interest in relation to the four areas of specialization offered
in the Saarbrücken Masters Program
Note: Specialisation is not required, in this case you can leave out this part in your statement. Choosing "no specialisation" does not decrease your chances of being accepted to the program. You can also choose one at a later stage of your studies.
- General German Hochschulreife certificate (Abitur) which qualifies the student to study at the university, or an equivalent secondary school leaving certificate
- your Bachelor's degree
- a transcript of academic records
- a current Curriculum Vitae (CV), written in English
- a statement of interest
written in English. Please write at most two pages focusing on:
- Send
us certified hard copies of:
- General German Hochschulreife certificate (Abitur) which qualifies the student to study at the university, or an equivalent secondary school leaving certificate
- your Bachelor's degree
- certificates attesting to the fulfillment of the language requirements
- Ask two referees of your choice to send us Letters of Recommendation.
Please also note that we cannot return any documents that you send us.
Language Requirements
- TOEFL score of at least 79 (internet based test) or 213
(computer-based test) or 550 (paper-based test).
- TOEFL code number 8497 for Saarland University-Dept. Computational Linguistics and Phonetics.
- Important: Enter the code on your answer sheets when you sit for the examination.
- Please do not upload or send us a copy of the student's score report for the TOEFL. We can only accept official score reports sent to us directly by the TOEFL organization.
- Cambridge Proficiency Exam – pass.
- Cambridge CAE Advanced – grade of A or B.
- IELTS
- IELTS score of at least 6.0
- For Germans: Certification of at least 5 years of English at school with an average mark of at least 3.5 in the German marking system from the two final years will also fill the language requirement.
Letters of Recommendation
Your application has to be accompanied by Letters of Recommendation by two referees (professors / employers). Please include the contact details of your referees in the application form.The referees should use the form available for download below for their letters. They may send the letters directly to the postal / E-Mail-address stated in the form, or give them to you in a sealed envelope, which the referee should sign across the sealed flap.
