The goal of the software project is the design, implementation and documentation of a Named Entity Server based on OSGi. The OSGi framework is a module system and service platform for the Java programming language that implements a complete and dynamic component model. Using the OSGi framework, the goal is to define for a selected number of Named Entity recognizers (e.g., LingPipe, OpenNLP, OpenCalais, Gate) the corresponding OSGi specification, so that they can be maintained and run as web services. In order to be able to combine the outputs from different recognizers, a Meta-NER component will be developed that uses a simple voting schema for the integration of the different outputs. A Web-based GUI will be developed that helps the user to simply configure the system for testing and evaluation.

The implementation language is Java and basic knowledge of Java and some programming experience is needed, as usually covered by a programming course in Java.
