Introduction

Textual entailment or textual inference leads us from a sentence/text to other, superficially different ones, which encode information that can be plausibly inferred from the former. Modelling the inference process is useful for various language technology tasks, e.g., question answering, information extraction, or summarisation. In the seminar, we will inspect different deep and shallow approaches to model the inference process, and look into methods for the acquisition of semantic information needed to support textual inference.
