(SS 2012)

Seminar / Hauptseminar

Lecturer: Manfred Pinkal
Place: C7 2, Konferenzraum 2.11
Time: Di, 14-16 (First meeting 24.04.2012)
Appropriate for: M.Sc. and advanced B.Sc. students

Overview

Due to the advance of data-intensive methods, semantics has continuously moved into the focus of language technology and computational linguistics research, during the last decade. In the seminar, we will look into central topics like

  • Similarity Modeling in distrubutional semantics
  • Word-sense disambiguation and discrimination
  • Semantic role labeling
  • Acquisition of paraphrases, inference patterns and script information
In this semester, we will pay special attention to
  • Generative approaches using latent variables
  • Processing of temporal information in texts
  • Grounding of distributional meaning in the (visual) world

Topics and references are meant to give a first orientation. The topic list will be extended and refined in the beginning of the seminar, dependent on the size of the group and special interests of the participants.
