Recent Developments in Computational Semantics
(SS 2011; 2012 update will be available soon)
Seminar / Hauptseminar
Lecturer: Manfred PinkalPlace: C7 2, Konferenzraum 2.11
Time: Mo, 10-12 (First meeting 18.04.2011)
Appropriate for: M.Sc. and advanced B.Sc. students
Overview
Due to the advance of data-intensive methods, semantics has continuously moved into the focus of language technology and computational linguistics research, during the last decade. In the seminar, we will look into central topics like
- Modeling semantic similarity
- Word-sense disambiguation and discrimination
- shallow semantic parsing, role labeling
- automatic acquisition of paraphrase and inference patterns
- automatic acquisition of script information
- approaches aiming at the integration of compositional and distributional semantics
- the use of latent variables in computational semantics.
Topics and references are meant to give a first orientation. The topic list will be extended and refined in the beginning of the seminar, dependent on the size of the group and special interests of the participants.
