General information on ESSLLI 98:

Logic, Language and Information have attracted and brought together a large number of active researchers from disciplines such as Logic, Computer Science, Linguistics and Cognitive Science, who consider the use of logical techniques (broadly conceived) as a thread unifying their research efforts.

The European Summer School in LLI (ESSLLI) has become the main meeting place for young researchers and research students in this rapidly growing field. ESSLLI is a unique, interdisciplinary event, with no counterparts in Europe or elsewhere in the world.

The main focus of ESSLLI 98 is the interface between linguistics, logic and computation. Courses, both introductory and advanced, cover a wide variety of topics within six areas of interest: Logic, Computation, Language, Logic and Computation, Computation and Language, Language and Logic.

Previous Summer Schools have been highly successful, attracting around 500 to 650 students and researchers from all over the world. The School has developed into an important meeting place and forum for discussion for those interested in the interdisciplinary study of Logic, Language and Information.

ESSLLI 98 is organized unter the auspices of the European Association for Logic, Language and Information (FoLLI).

Since 1998 is the year of anniversaries and the second go on ESSLLI in Saarbruecken - after a successful ESSLLI 91 - be sure to participate in a great event!

Course types:

Foundational Foundational courses are given in the interdisciplinary sections, i.e. "Logic and Language", "Logic and Computation", "Language and Computation" only. They are meant to offer people with some background in one of the two areas a fairly broad view of the relevance of the other area.
Introductory Introductory courses are designed to familiarize students with new fields. They do not presuppose any background knowledge.
Advanced Advanced courses are designed to allow participants to acquire more specialized expertise in areas which they are already familiar with.
Workhop Workshops will be chaired by an expert in the field. They will provide an opportunity for PhD students and other young researchers to present their work and get well-informed feedback and useful contacts.
Student session The purpose of the student session is to provide students with an opportunity to present their work in progress and get valuable feedback by senior researchers and fellow students.
Evening lecture Each week there are two evening lectures given by invited speakers aimed at a broad audience.
