Developing Italian FrameNet

Sara Tonelli
ITC-Irst, Fondazione Bruno Kessler

This talk presents work in progress to develop Italian FrameNet. We describe two algorithms for the automatic projection of frame-semantic information from English to Italian texts tested on an excerpt of the English-Italian Europarl corpus and on some sentences from the Berkeley FrameNet corpus. We compare our approach and our results to similar experiments carried out on other European languages and point out typical features of the Italian language as regards frame-semantic annotation. Besides, we present the LUNA corpus of Italian dialogs annotated with a new multi-level protocol including frame information. We discuss the annotation workflow and the interaction between dialog acts and frame annotation. Finally, we present some experiments to automatically extend the Italian FrameNet database using MultiWordNet.
